How My CBD Reviews Work

If you’ve spent any time researching CBD, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of review websites seem to recommend almost every brand they review.

I found that frustrating when I was searching for products myself, and it’s one of the reasons I created CBD Truth Finder.

My goal is simple: to help you find trustworthy CBD brands without spending hours digging through websites, lab reports, ingredient lists, and marketing claims.

To do that, I use a scoring system that looks at three areas I believe matter most: trust and transparency, ingredients, and lab testing.

No scoring system is perfect, and a score can never tell the whole story. But it can provide a useful starting point and make it easier to compare brands side by side.

What Goes Into a Review

Every review starts with research.

I spend time reviewing company websites, product pages, ingredient lists, lab reports, policies, and other information that may help paint a clearer picture of a brand.

Whenever possible, I include screenshots and supporting evidence so you can see the information for yourself rather than simply taking my word for it.

The goal isn’t to find reasons to criticize a company. It’s to evaluate brands consistently and help consumers make more informed decisions.

The Three Areas I Score

Trust and Transparency

The CBD industry isn’t always known for transparency.

Some brands make it easy to find important information, while others leave customers digging for answers.

This category looks at how open and straightforward a company is about things like its sourcing, manufacturing practices, policies, and overall business practices.

Ingredients

Not all CBD products are created equal.

This category focuses on what’s actually inside the product. Depending on the product type, I look at things like ingredient quality, formulation choices, artificial additives, labeling practices, and overall transparency.

I also consider whether the ingredients appear thoughtfully chosen or whether the formula seems packed with unnecessary fillers or marketing fluff.

Lab Testing

If I could only look at one thing when evaluating a CBD brand, lab testing would be near the top of the list.

Third-party testing helps verify what’s in a product and whether it’s been screened for things like pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbial contaminants.

This category looks at both the quality of the testing and how transparent the company is about sharing those results.

What Do the Scores Mean?

Each brand receives an overall score out of 100. That score is based on the combined results of the categories above.

Rating Categories

90–100: Exceptional
80–89: Recommended
70–79: Average
60–69: Use Caution
0–59: Not Recommended

The score provides a quick snapshot, but I always encourage readers to look at the details behind it.

A brand might score very well in one area and struggle in another, which is why I include breakdowns for each category rather than relying on a single number.

A Quick Reality Check

One thing I think is important to mention:

A higher score doesn’t automatically mean a product will work better for you.

CBD is highly individual. What works well for one person may not work the same way for someone else.

My reviews aren’t designed to predict how effective a product will be for you personally. Instead, they’re designed to answer questions like:

  • Is this company transparent?
  • Are the ingredients high quality?
  • Does the lab testing support the claims?
  • Is important information easy to find?
  • Does this brand appear to take quality and safety seriously?

Those are things that can be evaluated more objectively.

Why I Created CBD Truth Finder

CBD has been a big part of my own wellness journey for many years, helping me manage severe chronic pain, anxiety, and sleep issues.

Along the way, I spent countless hours trying to figure out which brands were trustworthy and which claims were actually backed by evidence.

Too often, I found websites that seemed more interested in making a sale than helping people make informed decisions.

CBD Truth Finder is my attempt to create the resource I wish I’d had back then.

My goal isn’t to tell you what to buy.

My goal is to give you better information so you can decide for yourself.
